How
to obtain the lowest airline fares
Tip # 4 BOOKING ONE WAY? Check beyond your destination for other
flights that may be stopping in your city.
CHECK BEYOND
your destination.
Often you
can find better one way fares by looking at a round trip ticket
(or one way ticket) on an airplane that uses your destination
airport as a stop along the way.
Using the
Spokane to Orlando trip as an example, typically it would stop
in Salt Lake City or Denver, but there are also connections that
can go through Chicago and Cincinnati. If I wanted a one way fare
to Cincinnati, I might get a better price by buying a round trip
fare from Spokane to Orlando, and get off the plane in Cincinnati.
This
won't work though for a round trip ticket, because your originating
flight back to Spokane would be from Orlando to Cincinnati. If
you don't get on the plane on Orlando, the computer will cancel
your reservation from Cincinnati to Spokane.
